Ch. de la Vuarpillière 33
A sprout of the Italian Binda group dynasty, best known for the production of Breil watches, Carlo Crocco left the company in 1976 to beat on his own and create a new watch company. In order to move to Switzerland, he formed MDM Geneve and began to design a watch, which he called Hublot after the French word “Bullauge”. The watch he created showed the first natural rubber band in the history of watchmaking.
It took 3 years of research to create the band. Despite the failure to win a single potential customer on the first day of his debut at the Basel-Uhrenmesse in 1980, the watch quickly proved to be a commercial success with a turnover of over 2 million dollars in the first year.
