After studying marketing in Besançon, Richard Mille (born February 13, 1951, Draguignan, France) started 1974 at Finhor, a local watchmaker.
The company was bought by Matra in 1981 and Richard Mille rose to operate Matra’s watch business, which included the Yema and Cupillard Rième brands. Matra watchmaking was sold to Seiko, who left Mille in 1992 to start a watch shop for jewelery company Mauboussin.
In 1999, he founded Richard Mille S.A. In collaboration with Audemars Piguet. The first product, the RM001 was sold in 2001.
